(At this point I have textbooks worth of notes.)

(ay its me!)

I’ll start within the doldrums; you know, that stagnant period in time where no wind fills the sails lest you blow in them. I’ll start with a day where I was at work, stocking cans of dog food on the shelf for a few hours and stirring the same old cess pool of thoughts. For once, the stale air shifted and it just happened a particular thought came to me, and it expanded into the form of a faint breeze to fill empty sails.

I would give you something conventional and stodgy, but for a change I’d like to share a couple excerpts from the collection of conclusions.

I’m no one important. I’m an average, working Philadelphian.  There is no hand that owes me. I am simply the painter, the  kid in the back of the classes. I’m the astronomer. I am the one that passed you in the hall that one time, the stranger who stocks the shelves; but, like most books with a blank cover, there are depths and depths of word and brilliance just beyond that scrap of canvas.

To cut the cake to a slice, one day I can change the world. If not so, I’ll change some minds. All of my dreams hang in the voids of space. There’s some purpose beyond the physical and the material. There must be something more to my existence to working a minimum wage job, coming home to an overcrowded home we can hardly afford anymore (thanks to the hiking up of rent prices due to getrification and all other living expenses) , paying until I’m broke and still looking forward to college debt.  The American Dream simply glitters in faux gold.  For the past few years I’ve been studying astronomy and fundamental physics avidly; adding together the pieces of our exordium and finding purpose in my life beyond the modern day social/work structure...

Everything; from the essence of my structure to the lofty 4 dimensional scaffolding of space-time has reason and equation; and I love the ever-flourishing frontier of translating these voids of calculations and observation to tangible imagery. This study and most of science is, forever recanting and rebuilding, and grasping the ungraspable.  I’m honored to contribute what little I have, and I intend to work my lifetime to continue to build these dreams.

Realistically, I’m at a disadvantage.  My family has no expendable money and is supported by a single parent (be honest, week to week life is expensive;  especially when you have 3 children.)  . I personally cannot afford thousands for tuition.  I’ve applied for every federal aid, state aid and school aid I could (FASFA, PHEA, school grants etc.)

Though the disadvantages are real, nothing has fazed the efforts I put towards my eduction, my future and my dreams. Reguardless of scabrous work-weeks and piles of essays and research papers, I demanded to maintain honors. 80s and 90s were my gift to myself, and my efforts will go well beyond graduation (June 2015)

*:) Hard work truly pays off. Message of encouragement to any student: You CAN do this. Wake up every day and you tell yourself you CAN and you WILL. The power you hold is limitless.*

As a female, the maths and sciences were tough fields to face. Encouragement and recognitionwas  almost nonexistant until the relatively recently in time. The females who have paved the way for us have felt endless skepticism. Today, we've overcome most of these hurdles and have been given the opportunity to stand on the pedestal the scientists before us have built.

Opportunity lives in the hands of those who keep their palms open and their eyes unfaltered.  Disincentive is not a hurdle in which you should suffer; it is pure fuel to prove yourself worthy. Don't forget this.

(Beyond my efforts for eduction, I praise and meditate all forms of abstract expression. As we know, all art translates to equation, and all equation translates to an art. It is the language of our universe.  Art and I share a limitless love, just as the mathematics of it shares a secret intimacy. Amongst my works are paintings based from these universal translations of mathematics, sacred geometry and related forms. )

With this page, I’m making efforts now to do for myself, and to guide the dingy out of stagnant waters. I WILL be the first to graduate and move on the college. I’ll be something everyone thought I wouldn’t be.  I’ll dedicate myself to accomplishing my goals, one step at a time.

I’m no one important. I’m the same as you, and anyone else in south philly. I stock the dog cans. I clean the cages, then go home. But then…I’m also the astronomer, the writer, the creator and the blues singer. I’m the dancer and the poet. I’m the teacher and I’m the student.
